Paperless Caching with OSX (Palm or iPod)

Please note. These instructions will work with a Palm Device configured through OS X’s iSync. They were intended for the iPod

Using two tools only: MacCaching and AddressBook you can Geocache with OSX quite easily. This trick works with any iPod that displays “Contacts” and any Palm Pilot configured through iSync. (If you are using the Palm Desktop instead of Address Book, this trick does not work.)

Here are the quick steps to follow:

1. File -> Export to vCard
2. Select the Cache List you want to export
3. The dialog will ask if you want to import into Address Book, say “Yes”.
4. Now Sync your iPod or Palm Device

If you look at your address book (or contacts) you will see it is now Populated with the Caches. On the iPod they are alphabetical by the Geocaching Waypoint name. On the Palm, you can search by the Waypoint name. Just match this to the Waypoint name displayed on your GPSr!

How do I delete them?

Load Address Book and Filter by “GC”. You can delete Caches quickly from Address Book this way.

In the future, MacCaching will do most of this work for you.

If you have suggestions, feel free to add them below or email them to me.

I got the files in my contacts and can open them easy. The problem comes when I try to scroll up and down in the file to read the notes, logs and hints. It doesn’t scroll up and down worth crap. It works occasionally. I tried buttons and different scroll methods, nothing…
